Volunteers of all ages from The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association's Keep Murray Hill Clean and Green campaign participated in the family-friendly It's My Park! day of community service on Saturday, October 16. The group first met at St. Vartan Park to collect the bulbs, trowels, gloves, shovels, trash grabbers and mulch, all generously supplied by the City Parks Foundation and the Parks Department. They then teamed up with families from the Mary Murray Lindley School, P.S. 116, located on 33rd Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The group planted more than 100 tulip bulbs in tree beds in front of the school, and then continued to various locations in Murray Hill, cleaning out tree beds and planting a variety of crocuses, daffodils, and more tulips. Many thanks to the Keep Murray Hill Clean and Green volunteers who so generously gave their time and effort so that we can all enjoy litter-free tree beds and flowers next spring!
Keep Murray Hill Clean volunteers can also adopt a block and take care of their adopted block on their own schedule, or can join in a clean-up event every third Saturday of the month. We are also seeking volunteers who can help with organizing the cleaning events.
If you would like to adopt a block, please join our Facebook Group at facebook.com/groups/KeepMurrayHillClean or email us at greenandclean@murrayhillnyc.org. Donations are welcome at murrayhillnyc.org/donate. MHNA trustee Michael-Ann Rowe chairs the committee.
