The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) will be managing a project to install new and replace old water mains and sewers along 2nd Avenue and other areas to ensure the delivery of necessary services. The work will be done on 1st, 2nd Avenue, 3rd Avenue, 33rd Street and 35th Street. The work will include the installation of new curbs, catchbasins, sewers, hydrants and watermains. There will also be utility infrastructure and roadway restoration work.
Tree guards will be installed to protect the trees during the project.
Advance notice will be given of all water service interruptions.
Traffic regulations during construction are coordinated with the NYC DOT (OCMC). Street or travel lane closures may be required. Bus detour/relocation may be required. Driveway access may be temporarily restricted. Parking of private vehicles on the street within construction work zones is restricted.
This work will be subcontracted out to MFM Contracting Corp. R.E.I. Firm is Greely & Hansen VRX, Inc.

Monday - Friday 7am-10pm
Saturday & Sunday 8am-10pm
2/15/2021 The Department of Design & Construction alerted Community Board 6 that due to heavy utility interferences at various locations throughout the project, the new anticipated completion date has been delayed to Spring 2023. The original completion date was expected to be Summer 2021. DDC notes that this delay is due to the need to remove utility interferences, which requires time to complete.

You are advised to contact the DDC and/or the General Contractor (GC), of any property damage that may have occurred as a result of the construction work. If the GC fails to respond within 10 days, you should inform the DDC Construction Director, in writing. If you intend to file a claim, you must do so within 90 days of occurrence with the NYC Comptroller’s Office.
