Crime statistics for the 17th Precinct in 2020

The 2020 crime statistics for New York City's 17th Precinct were presented at the precinct's monthly community meeting in January 2021. In general, reported crime decreased in 2020 compared with 2019, from 1121 to 953 incidents. Despite the overall drop in crime, three categories increased. There were 13 rapes in 2020, an increase of 18% over 2019. Robberies (the crime of taking something directly from someone else) increased 7% to 64, and burglaries (which usually involve entering a property with the intent of stealing) increased 80% to 184. These numbers include an increase in bicycle and car theft. Please do not leave your car unattended with keys in it.
