DescriptionA free press, with its role as a watchdog of the government, is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Yet today journalists are under attack. They have been called “the enemy of the people” by our president and silenced by dictatorships around the world.
Peter Beinart—contributor to The Atlantic, CNN commentator, and a professor at The Graduate Center and CUNY’s Newmark School of Journalism—moderates a discussion featuring renowned journalist Bill Moyers, host and producer of many PBS programs; Anne Applebaum, columnist for The Washington Post; Graciela Mochkofsky, award-winning reporter in South America and the U.S. and professor at the Newmark School of Journalism; and Jelani Cobb, staff writer at The New Yorker.
Part of the series The Promise and Perils of Democracy. This project is made possible in part with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
