Our neighborhood has the least amount of open space in the city in terms of parks and public spaces. Our proposed Public Plaza project through the Department of Transportation will provide the Kips Bay area with a clean, safe & attractive public space to host local events and act as a town center for our residents and visitors alike – to sit, relax, read, have a cup of coffee or just sit & watch the world go by.
Currently, the space is designated a service road from 30th to 33rd Street, along the east side of 2nd Avenue, and used for parking. It has been both aesthetically unpleasant and dangerous to pedestrians. Creating an open space with trees, planters, benches and tables will increase the appeal of the area and attract more customers to local businesses. In addition, the plaza will increase surrounding real estate value and strengthen our sense of community.
Please sign this petition to show you welcome and support more open space for our community. Your signature will reinforce and validate the city’s decision to choose our neighborhood for this public plaza. You can also download a copy of the petition below.
