State and National Register of Historic Places Boundary Expansion for Murray Hill

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

As of May 2014

In February 2013, 151 additional Murray Hill buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places, bringing the total number of buildings to 250 on this prestigious Register. The new boundaries for the National Register District now extend from 34th Street to 39th Street and from Madison Avenue to just west of Third Avenue. (See link to map below). A proposal to expand our current Historic District to the new National Register boundaries has been filed with the New York City Landmarks Commission along with a request to convene a hearing on this expansion.

Our elected officials as well as noted preservationists have sent letters of support to the Land marks Preservation Commission. Community Board #6 unanimously passed and submitted a resolution in favor of the expansion of the Murray Hill Historic District.
