Guidelines for Book Donations to the Street Festival

Thank you to everyone whose generous support has made our book table at The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association's Street Festival a great success year after year! This year we would like to share some guidelines for those interested in donating books that we think will help make the book table an even greater success!

Please put books into manageable size bags & boxes (30 lbs. maximum) when putting your books together. Books must be in your lobby for collection.

Donation pickups will be Mondays, May 14 and May 21 starting at 7pm.

You may also deliver your donations on May 21 at 8pm to the Carlton Regency side entrance at 137 East 36th Street (between Lexington & Third Avenue).

For pickup email Lance Zakin at or register online: May 14 pickup, May 21 pickup.

Books we have found to be great sellers:

  • Newer hardcover fiction books

  • Biographies

  • New York Times Best Sellers put out in the past 2 or 3 yrs (both hardcover & paperback)

  • Cookbooks / Specialty Craft books (crocheting, knitting, etc)

  • Children's books

  • Travel books put out in the past two to three years

The following books do not sell well. Please do NOT include them in your donations.

  • Paperback romances (sorry, but each year we consistently sell none of these)

  • Computer help books that are older than a year old

  • Encyclopedias

  • Magazines

  • Almost anything more than three years old (unless biographies, children's books or classic novels)
  • VHS or Betamax tapes
