Park Avenue Tunnel Closure Weeknights and Weekends - work extended
Monday, March 27, 2017
Source: NYC Department of Transportation
Beginning April 3, 2017, and continuing for approximately three months, the NYC Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, will close the Park Avenue Tunnel to excavate and prepare the tunnel for installation of the new below grade drainage system. The work is taking longer than expected due to the large amount of rock that needed to be excavated for the drainage system.
The Park Avenue Tunnel runs from 33rd Street to 40th Street on Park Avenue.
Work will take place weeknights between 9pm and 6am the following morning and 9pm Friday through 6am Monday morning. During the tunnel closures, traffic will be routed to the adjacent northbound service road (east side of Park Avenue). Drivers who want to go onto the elevated roadway around Grand Central Terminal should stay in the left lane as they approach 40th Street.
April 3rd to June 30th, 2017
Weeknights: 9pm to 6am
Weekends: 9pm Friday to 6am Monday
The tunnel will re-open at 6am weekday mornings
