November 21, 2016, updated November 23, 2016 and February 18, 2017.
As of Friday, November 18, 2016, major surface level operations for the construction of the 38th Street Ventilation Facility are complete. The sidewalk is open to pedestrians and the contractor's equipment and materials have been removed.
Beginning in 2017 (late winter or early spring), there will be some utility work at the curb site for a few weeks. Concrete deliveries during daytime hours for the construction of the tracks below ground will get underway requiring an on-street presence. There may be a small storage facility at the site. Additional work to finish the sidewalk restoration at the curb and complete the utility relocation as per the requirements of the city's utility providers will also be performed. Details will be provided to the community in advance.
East Side Access Passenger Exits
When the project is completed, the majority of the East Side Access passengers are expected to exit to the north of Grand Central Terminal, with less than 25% exiting through the terminal.
