DOT Releases 34th Street SBS Project Analysis Report

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

For almost two years, the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association has been at the forefront of the fight against the DOT's most extreme plans for 34th Street. This email continues our commitment to keeping you informed and giving you a voice.

Because the continuing SBS (Select Bus Service) program relies on federal funding, the DOT was required to complete an environmental impact study. In response, they have just released their 34th Street SBS Project Analysis Report, which can be downloaded from their website at: http://www.nyc.gov/html/brt/downloads/pdf/201201_brt_34th_project-analysis-report.pdf. The report is not light reading—it is lengthy and covers a wide range of topics, including transportation, social and other environmental impacts. However, we urge you to take the time to read through the document and email us any comments or concerns at info@murrayhillnyc.org.

As of this writing, the DOT has scheduled no further public forums on this topic. However, MHNA representatives will have an opportunity to respond to this study as part of our standing participation in the Community Advisory Committee for 34th Street. The next meeting of the CAC will occur later in the Spring (no formal date has been set) and we will bring forward any concerns on your behalf.

As we approach the final stages of construction, please continue to look for our emails, website updates, and articles in Murray Hill Life for the latest information.
